An old clown returns to the stage. The audience is there, waiting for him to make them laugh. But everything fails.

So, he begins a meticulous analysis of the stunts and antics he performs. In his introspection, the gaffes and setbacks come one after the other, each more hilarious than the last. And by asking himself “Why does it fail?”, he ends up exposing a more intimate part of himself.

Like a tightrope walker without a balancing pole, Philippe Goudard embraces the risk of laughing too hard. The anatomy of a clown? The anatomy of a man? The clown dissects the man and the audience laughs. This subtle performance is both meditative and funny. It’s a small marvel that perfectly evokes the plight of the clown.
