Contorting oneself in a space that is far too small. Struggling, trying to escape. And, once outside, still feeling trapped. In this solo performance, Alice Rende draws on the legacy of Houdini to revisit this magically acrobatic discipline. Constrained in a Plexiglass box, the artist seems imprisoned. Tirelessly, she climbs up and down, pressing her face against the transparent surface, which is strangely reminiscent of the display cases in anatomical museums. Using only the strength of her limbs, she slides along the four walls, immersed in a soundscape fed by the amplified noises of her own movements. The artist explores her limits and presents us with a unique performance of a new kind.

Through her company Ar, which has been based in Aix-en-Provence since 2022, Alice Rende works on contortion as a sensory act that is capable of questioning and transforming the constraints people are subjected to and how these constraints manifest themselves in our bodies.
